Gregory Renard is a hands-on AI architect whose track record reaches back to 1996, when he shipped France’s first NLP call-center stack and began a career dedicated to making language technology work at industrial scale. 

 

In 2012 he introduced Angie — the “French Siri” — a fully-featured personal assistant that set a new bar for European dialogue systems. (Techdays 2012)

 

Today his portfolio includes a dozen issued AI patents in voice, zero-shot dialogue, and knowledge transfer, along with over 200 publications and talks—among them a Nature paper on generative AI and machine intelligence.

Gregory Renard received the distinction in 2025 for his pioneering work in conversational AI and his commitment to ethical, human-centered innovation.

Gregory’s policy impact is equally concrete: co-initiator of AI4Humanity (2018) and contributor to the Villani report (2017) that anchors France and Europe’s AI strategy ; reserve member of the EU High-Level Expert Group on AI ; co-author of the Holberton-Turing Oath setting early ethical guard-rails for the industry in 2018.

He has been invited as a Speaker, an Advisor or a member of those prestigious organizations, providing information and solutions.

In academia he co-founded the Sociology-NLP Research Group at UC Berkeley’s Matrix Department in 2020 and regularly lectures at TEDx (Jun 7, 2015), Stanford, Institute for Advanced Study, Berkeley, Holberthon School (2016) and 42 School.
