Gregory is a pioneering Artificial Intelligence architect and entrepreneur with 25 + years of experience in applied NLP, Knowledge Graph, LLM and large-scale AI systems.
AI is no longer just a tool.
It is progressively becoming an operational layer integrated into workflows, decision systems, and organizational memory. The challenge is no longer access to AI. It is the ability to operationalize it meaningfully, safely, and at scale.
For more than 25 years, Gregory Renard has been building real-world AI systems across conversational AI, knowledge graphs, NLP, LLMs, and agentic architectures, helping organizations move from experimentation to operational execution. From early dialogue systems in the 1990s to enterprise-scale AI transformation programs today, his work focuses on one core question: "How do organizations turn AI into a durable operational capability?"
A pragmatic approach to AI transformation.
Gregory combines deep technical expertise with executive-level transformation thinking to help organizations design and operationalize AI systems with measurable impact. He is a hands-on AI architect whose track record reaches back to 1996, he shipped France’s first NLP call-center stack and began a career dedicated to making language technology work at industrial scale.
In 2012 Gregory launched Angie — the “French Siri” — France’s first large-scale conversational platform, a fully-featured personal assistant that set a new bar for European dialogue systems (Techdays 2012), he holds 50+ publications, patents, awards, and received NASA’s 2022 Merit Award for his applied artificial intelligence contributions to space and earth sciences.
A leading and inspiring voice in AI, Gregory advises governments and Fortune 500 companies on AI strategy, known for his pragmatic, deeply technical approach—captivating audiences at TEDx, MIT, The Institute for Advanced Study, Stanford, and Berkeley with substance, clarity, and real-world impact.
Gregory focuses on operationalizing AI at organizational scale through agentic systems, cognitive workflows, and AI-native architectures. He approaches AI not as tooling, but as an emerging operational layer reshaping how organizations learn, decide, and execute.
Today his portfolio includes a dozen issued AI patents in voice, zero-shot dialogue, and knowledge transfer, along with over 200 publications and talks—among them a Nature paper on generative AI and machine intelligence.
The Walloon Merit Awards are presented each year during the Walloon Festival to honor outstanding contributors to Wallonia.
Gregory Renard received the distinction in 2025 for his pioneering work in conversational AI and his commitment to ethical, human-centered innovation.
Gregory’s policy impact is equally concrete: co-initiator of AI4Humanity (2018) and contributor to the Villani report (2017) that anchors France and Europe’s AI strategy ; reserve member of the EU High-Level Expert Group on AI ; co-author of the Holberton-Turing Oath setting early ethical guard-rails for the industry in 2018.
He has been invited as a Speaker, an Advisor or a member of those prestigious organizations, providing information and solutions:

In academia, Gregory co-founded the Sociology-NLP Research Group at UC Berkeley’s Matrix Department in 2020 and regularly lectures at TEDx (Jun 7, 2015), Stanford, Institute for Advanced Study, Berkeley, Holberthon School (2016) and 42 School.
Across sectors—automotive (2015) and humanoid robots voice platforms (2013), customer-service augmentation for global banks, supply-chain AI for e-commerce and award-winning space-tech—his common thread is delivering impactful, production-grade applied AI systems at scale and on-time.
